Book Review: The Christmas Sweater

Synopsis:
The Christmas Sweaterdescribes the life of a twelve year old boy, Edward, who wants one present more than anything.  He has prayed for it and promised God he will be good if he gets this one present for Christmas.  Edward knows the present is expensive, but he believes God will be able to help his mom get it for him.
Christmas morning comes and his life changes forever in more ways than he can imagine.  He never could have foreseen this situation.
This story, which so many people have been through, is an interesting eye opening lesson in being thankful for those you love, grateful for those things you have and loving when you have the chance.

My Reaction:
The book was really good and I enjoyed it.  I didn’t want to put it down some nights.  It had a good message for kids and explained why you have to be thankful for gifts you receive as you don’t know what may happen in the future.  It also has the lesson about how grief, anger and hate can eat you up inside.
It is an easy read and can be read in one sitting if you like.
I think it is a great book that can be read every year before Christmas as our kids grow.
We read about one chapter every night with our children before Christmas.  Our children are young (7 months and 2 years), but it was a nice time to spend together as a family each night.

Rating (1-5 stars; 5 being best):
I would give the book 4 1/2 stars.
It is a great book to revisit each year.

Worth My Time:
I think this book was worth the time we spent as a family and a good, easy, thoughtful read.
